Christmas Celebration in Morgan Dec. 3


Morgan City will again be hosting Ol’ Time Christmas on Commercial Street. There will be activities and fun for all. There will be a raffle for Sub for Santa. Tickets can be earned by bringing a new unwrapped toy. The grand prize is a 42 Zenith Plasma T.V. Santa Claus arrives at 3:15, by fire truck and will visit with the children to hear their Christmas wishes from 3:30p.m. -5:45p.m. Mrs. Claus will be reading Christmas Stories. There will a special presentation of the Grinch Stole Christmas by Bob Peterson as well as several dance performances from the Morgan Dance Academy. The entire 4th grade will be singing at 4 p.m. There will be a Christmas boutique so people can shop. Local craftspeople will be spotlighted, explained Shelly Betz from the Morgan City Council. The Christmas Boutique will include a variety of handmade and commercial items. The vendors will include: Sunshine Dreams: Assortment of hats, including character, tassel, and stocking caps; scarves; infant sets w/booties, crochet flowerband (headbands) w/ interchangeable flowers, character headbands, crochet men’s earbands, crochet flower barrettes, aprons and crochet kitchen items. Diane Chappell and Michelle Manning: Scripture Bags, Handmade Cards, Advent Calendars, Stamped Decorative Tiles, Notebooks, Aprons, Children’s Activity Books, Stampin’ Up Products, Scrapbook Pages made from Creative Memories products, Decorative Pillows, and Christmas Decorations. A-Z Expressions: ready made vinyl items such as: tiles, ladders, blocks, wood plaques, magnet boards, etc. Paparazzi: $5 Jewelry and Hair Accessories for kids and adults. Chris Slate: crocheted hats, beaded watchbands and faces, necklace charms, purses, magnetic boards, tiles with vinyl sayings, bows made out of duct tape. Anne Stevens: stuffed animals, books and Christmas ornaments, dog coats and collars. Lippy Chic – handcrafted natural lip balm. Bingham’s Custom Meats: gift baskets with jerky, spices/meat rubs, shirts, hats. Catherine Miller: crochet afghans, wall hangings, baby items, hats. Liz Polad: hair bows and accessories. Usborne books Carol Marshall: handmade Christmas cards, tags, gift bags. Cards with a Tatted Touch- Camille Millburn: Tupperware and Avon great gift ideas to save you money and time, from Jerry and Melinda Savage. The Christmas Cafe will have a great variety of wonderful food choices. The menu will include: sloppy joes, pulled pork sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, bread sticks, sugar cookies, chips and soda from Deb’s Spicy Pie, chili from Larry’s Spring Chicken Inn, tamales from Luise’s Mexican Restaurant, frappes and ice cream from LiquiFaction Internet Cafe, and Deb’s Spicy Pie will be open with their full menu available. There will also be FREE cotton candy (donated by Morgan City), popcorn (donated by Ace), and hot chocolate (donated by Larry’s) for the kids! There will be a wonderful variety of kids’ activities, adds Shelly, that will include professional face painting, hair tinsel and 6 different games with prizes. There will also be an Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt and train rides up and down the street. Deb’s Spicy Pie is sponsoring the coloring contest. Kids can pick up their coloring pages at Deb’s and the City offices. Pages should be turned into Deb’s. Prizes will be awarded in three age groups: 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The gingerbread contest will be held again this year. 1st place is $300, 2nd is $200 and 3rd is $100. Entries must be received by December 1st. Entrants are needed! Betz said, The day will conclude: with the ringing of the bells and a countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree followed by a sing-a-long. Luminaries will then be passed out and lit. Each family will have a chance to make a wish and release their luminary into the Sky.
