Obituary – Shirley Bo Epperson Phillips

November 6, 1934 – February 8, 2012 There is more, much more, to being a redhead than the color of one’s hair. Shirley was raised in Farmington and Kaysville by her parents, Albert and Virginia Udy Epperson. She attended Davis High School until her family moved to Morgan, where they owned and operated the Morgan County News and the Summit County Bee. After graduating from Morgan High School, Shirley attended the University of Utah where she majored in journalism and lived in the Alpha Phi Sorority House. Shirley had beautiful red hair and a personality to match. In 1954, she was crowned as Salt Lake City’s Miss Flame, a beauty pageant held exclusively for redheads. After college, Shirley began working as a stewardess for United Airlines where she met her husband, Alfred Phillips. Shirley and Al were married in 1964 and spent the next 45 years together in Bountiful. She became a successful real estate agent in Davis County, all while raising her two daughters. Shirley was also an extremely talented seamstress, and made many beautiful costumes and horse show outfits for her daughters and granddaughter. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Victoria Phillips and Kelli (Hugh) McDonald; grandchildren, Morgan Bo Blackhurst and Jake Johnson; aunt, Lona Parrish; and special family friends, Dan Johnson and Carol Major. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Phillips; parents, Albert and Virginia Epperson; grandparents, Raul and Lona Udy; and several dear uncles and aunts from the Udy family. Friends are welcome at a graveside memorial service to be held at the Farmington City Cemetery (500 South 200 East, Farmington) on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Shirley’s name to the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation through this website: https://secure.piryx.com/donate/WTEsP6EN/jbj-soul-foundation/ Or checks can be mailed to: JBJ Soul Foundation Attn: Heather Goldfarb 1635 Market Street, 17th Floor Philadelphia, PA 19103
