All-state Morgan basketball players

With the completion of the high school basketball season comes the time for individual awards to be handed out. The Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune recently posted their All State teams, and several players from both the Morgan Trojan boys and girls squad were recognized for their successful seasons. The girls squad boasted a record of 20-5 overall, 12-0 in region play, and a 5th place finish at state. The Salt Lake Tribune named sophomore guard Rashel Blazzard, and sophomore forward McKenzie Schenk to their first team. Rashel averaged 13.9 points, 5.8 assists, 4.4 steals and 3 rebounds per game. McKenzie was close behind, averaging 12.1 points, 9 rebounds, and 2.1 steals. Senior center Kelsey Henry was named to the Tribunes second team, averaging 12.9 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. The Western Oregon commit played recently in the Utah Womens Basketball Coaches All Star game with the 3A team. The Deseret News All State team named Blazzard to their first team, and Schenk to their second team. In Region 11, Blazzard was named MVP of the region, while Schenk and Henry were named to the first team. Senior Whitney Morgan and sophomore Shaylie Duncan earned honorable mention awards. The Ogden Standard Examiner put Blazzard and Henry on their first team, Schenk and Morgan on the second team, and Duncan, junior Keirsha Dickson and sophomore Breanna Hurlbut as honorable mention. Like the girls, the Trojan Boys also enjoyed a stellar season, with a 21-4 overall record, 12-0 in region, and a 5th place finish at state. Junior forward Jake Miles was named first team all state by both the Salt Lake tribune and the Deseret News. Miles averaged 19.4 points per game (2nd leading scorer in 3A), 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game. While the Trojans will occasionally get a senior player on the first team, it has been a long time since the boys team has had a junior make first team all state. Senior center Boston Saunders was placed on the second team by both the Tribune and the Deseret News. Saunders averaged 15.8 points per game (10th in 3A), 6.2 rebounds, and 1 steal per game. In Region 11, Miles was named MVP. Saunders made first team, while seniors Swish Wiscombe, Colby Skinner, and Jaran Bennett were named Honorable Mention. Congratulations to these student-athletes for their fantastic seasons and the manner in which they represent their school and community.
