Giving Tree spreads branches, provides service and giving

Once again the spirit of our community has reached out to provide service and assistance to families through the annual Giving Tree project. This annual event is directed by students and advisors in the FCCLA, FFA, and National Honor Society. Help was also received from Morgan Middle School student officers and the PTSO’s in the elementary schools. Thanks to the generosity of our residents, 28 deserving families will have a brighter Christmas. Food, clothing and cash will be presented to each family in acts of kindness and appreciation. It is an honor for us to serve these wonderful members of our valley at this special time of year, remarked FCCLA advisor and high school educator Chris Carrigan. Hard times can befall any of us. Adults and children alike have taken ornaments from the Giving Tree and purchased gifts for these families. Some have sacrificed their allowance and extra spending money for others. Two hundred and fifty gifts have been wrapped and ready for delivery. Each family will receive at least three boxes of canned and dried food along with a turkey for their Christmas dinner. Cash will accompany the food and gifts to help with other necessities. It’s been phenomenal at our school, remarked Principal Tim Wolff, The children just keep bringing more and more food each day. Several high school students went the extra mile by traveling to Salt Lake as a group to construct Build-A-Bears for children. Each student paid $10 for the supplies and then spent time constructing the bear. Surplus bears will be given to Primary Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital, The Road Home and local law enforcement. We extend a big thank you to our community and others outside of our valley who make the Giving Tree possible, concluded Mrs. Carrigan. This is a great way to serve others and to teach that principle to our students.
