Fifth graders explore Oobleck

During the month of February, fifth graders at Mountain Green Elementary participated in a school-wide reading marathon leading up to Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2. In honor of Dr. Suess and his amazing contribution to literature, students have been learning about his life and reading his books. One book some of the students read was Bartholomew and the Oobleck. These students then participated in a science project to understand the physical and chemical properties of Oobleck. Cornstarch and water were mixed together to create the Oobleck. The non-newtonian substance that was created acted very strangely as the students proceeded to test, with their hands, if the substance was a liquid or a solid.
