Incumbents file forMorgan City Councilpositions All the incumbents up for re-election on the Morgan City Council filed to continue holding their seats. With a total of four seats up for grabs, two incumbents will run unopposed. Jim Egbert was the lone candidate to file for the four-year mayoral seat. Incumbents Ray Little and Shelly Betz will be joined by Jaden Ingle in a bid for two four-year city council seats. Incumbent Mike Kendell will run unopposed in November’s election for a two-year city council seat. School board president welcomes public scrutiny of finances Morgan County School Board President Bruce Galbraith said he is concerned with the impression the district is unwilling to work with a business task force to consider ways to help reduce costs. If the community is interested in looking at the books, they are available to anyone at anytime, he said. We are open to suggestions. I think it is a very good thing. We welcome it with open arms. Boardmember Mark Farmer said an organized group approach to review financial books might even be easier to manage than many individual requests. Board puts off negotiations The Morgan County School Board is postponing contract negotiations with its teachers and staff until after the June 25 vote on the local leeway. Many issues have been hammered out already, but details such as pay raises, insurance and funeral leave will have to wait until after the vote, said boardmember Ken Durrant. It’s down to the nuts and bolts of what to do with the money, he said.
