Trojans crush Scots

After a painful loss against South Summit, the Trojan football team learned from their mistakes and came back strong Saturday as they played Ben Lomond High School down in Ogden. Once again, they started strong in the first quarter by outscoring the Scots 21-0 with touchdowns by Matt Murdock, Kade Carrigan, and Mitch Wamsley. In the first three games of the year, the Trojans have not allowed a point in the first quarter while they have scored 41 points. In the second quarter the Trojans extended their lead to 28-0 with another Murdock run, this time from eight yards out. The Scots added some excitement as they returned a block kick back for a touchdown. But that would be short lived as quarterback Ben Saunders went to the air to find Bobby Cluff for a 20-yard touchdown pass. The Trojans defense continued to keep the Scots from really doing anything, which helped them expand their lead as Carrigan broke free for another touchdown. This time it was from six yards out, it was his second of the night. Spencer Larsen finished the scoring for the night as he rumbled in from 10 yards out to put the game out of reach. The Trojans walked away with a 49-7 victory, their first road victory of the year. Carrigan had another outstanding performance as he had 119 yards, two touchdowns on only eight carries. Saunders continued his impressive stats through the air connecting on seven of nine passes for a 160 yards and one touchdown. Christian Elton was the leading receiver as he hauled in three catches that resulted in 74 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Kyle Stapley was able to disrupt the Scots flow of offense as he registered three tackles and one sack. The Trojans now return home to take on the Granger High School Lancers this Friday night at 7 p.m. The Lancers are 1-2 this season and are coming off a loss to Brighton High School. Players to watch for are running back Kylon Pierre and quarterback Zack Ashman.
