Chris Carrigan was born in Provo, Utah, while her father was attending Brigham Young University. She has four sisters and one brother. She spent most of her early years in St. Louis, Missouri. She went to kindergarten in a two-level old rickety school that reminded her of Ogden High School. She wore a red dot every day on her collar because when she was in first grade, she was hit by a car when walking home from school. There was a man on the sidewalk that was scaring kids, so she ran between two parked cars to get away from him. The car coming down the street hit her dead center. She went under the car, came out the back end, jumped up, and ran home crying with the driver running after her to see if she was hurt. He was in worse shape than she was Ò she only had bumps and bruises. Chris graduated from Clearfield High School, where she was active in Future Homemakers of America (FCCLA now). Ironic that she has been part of that organization for years. She was also involved in pep club and choir in high school. She then attended Utah State University and received her bachelor’s degree in secondary education (family and consumer sciences). She taught school for three years at Davis High School prior to being a stay-at-home mom. She married Neil Keith Carrigan 39 years ago and they have seven children and almost 17 grandchildren. She often says, I used to think that children were the best, but I am now convinced that grandchildren are why we have children! Chris went back to school after a period of time and received a degree in elementary education from Weber State University. She went back to teaching when her youngest son went to first grade. She has taught in the Morgan School District for 20 years, teaching FACS classes in the high school and elementary nutrition at Morgan Elementary for six years until the program was cancelled. She loves kids of any age Ò they make the world better. Her hobbies include: sewing, reading, crafts of any kind, cooking, world travel, buying shoes (she has almost 600 pairs), and spending time with her family. She also collects Hard Rock CafÌ© pins (she has 37 pins) from every state and country she travels to. We are honored to have Chris as a member of our staff. She truly loves her job and all the students she comes in contact with. — Mary Jane Phillips was born in Riverdale, Maryland. She lived in Washington D.C. until she was 7 years old. She moved to Portland, Oregon, when her father was transferred. She has two older brothers, making her the spoiled baby sister. Her family’s pastime was going for car rides. She also loved Girl Scouts and camping as a child. Mary Jane graduated from John Marshall High School in Portland, Oregon. She served as senior class secretary. She graduated from Seely Business School in 1966 (she has always found work because of the secretary skills she learned). She then received an associate of science degree from Brigham Young University and a bachelor’s of science degree in family studies from Weber State University. Mary Jane has had many different jobs from file clerk for the IRS to Financial Secretary of Morgan High School for the past 17 years. When Principal Hugh Davis welcomed her, he said, You will enjoy working at Morgan High School. It has a rich heritage and many proud traditions. Having gone to a big high school in Portland, she thought that was an odd statement, but she now understands it completely. Some of her favorite traditions are street painting for homecoming, the FFA Sweetheart Cake Auction, funny hat days, lighting the M, and saving the last verse of the school song for graduation. She stated, I enjoy being a bookkeeper because it is not as monotonous as it sounds. No two days are ever the same, and I am always busy! Mary Jane is married to Kevin Phillips and they have five children and 16 grandchildren. They have lived in Morgan for 30 years. Some of her hobbies include: sewing, gardening and feeding birds. Mary Jane is a valuable member of the MHS staff. She is very meticulous and has a kind, pleasant demeanor. We are glad she is a member of our staff.
