Trojans Surge past Bees

Another home game, another slow start for the Trojans basketball team as they took on Box Elder High School this past Friday night. After falling behind by 11 points by the end of the first quarter, the Trojans gathered themselves and outscored the Bees by 22 points in the final three quarters as they earned their sixth win of the year. The 81-70 final score brought the team back to .500 on the season, and they have won six of their last seven games. Earlier in the season, with the team missing some players due to injuries, the Trojans often found themselves in a hole early and often. But since those players have returned, the Trojans have been the one enforcing their will on the other team. The Bees took control early on by taking advantage of the sluggish start by the Trojans, putting their backs against the wall. But if the team and fans hadn’t learned last week from the second-place finish at the Riverton Holiday Tournament that this team could play with any team in the state, they would on this night. The last three quarters were a total different representation of the first. The team was able to get back to playing the basketball Coach Jim Wiscombe has installed in the program during his tenure. Even trailing by four at halftime didn’t seem to phase the team as they came out in the third quarter ready to do what they wanted, whenever they wanted as they finished the quarter with 31 points alone, and a one-point lead. As fans have come accustomed to, the Trojans put the Bees away in the fourth quarter as they shut down their offense and held them to 10 points. The 81 points is the thirst most the Trojans have scored this year. Ben Saunders led the attack as he nearly accomplished a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Bridger Streadbeck continued to impress with 17 points and Matt Murdock did his best John Stockton impression with 12 points and eight assists. The Trojans return to the hardwood as they will take on Hunter High School, who they defeated 69-62 earlier on in the season. The game is set for Jan. 14. Tip off is set for 7p.m.
