The political and economic climate lately has many in Morgan asking about their local businesses. It is a common occurrence to read weekly and even daily Who does appliance repair in Morgan? and other similar posts on local facebook pages. It is clear Morgan wants to shop local, and many residents don’t even realize Morgan is home to over 600 businesses. At the same time, local businesses with dreams of expanding could benefit from networking with other businesses in the area. The Morgan Area Chamber has heard the rumblings, and has organized The Great Business Expo for Jan. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Morgan County Auditorium, where they plan to kick off a shop local program. Albert Wilde of the Morgan Area Chamber said this expo will showcase to the public all that Morgan County businesses have to offer. Businesses will host booths around the auditorium, with many offering prizes and drawings. The first 100 people to visit the expo when it opens to the public at 2 p.m. will receive a free pretzel compliments of Pretzelmaker. We would like to encourage everyone in the city and county to come by and see the businesses and what they have to offer, Wilde said. This is where the businesses that are available in Morgan are going to be. Businesses already planning to participate in the expo include promotional products solutions, office supply, property management, personal items retailers, contractors, mortgage brokers, grant and loan experts, landscape and garden material wholesalers, and many more. Booth space is still available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (801) 940-1436. From 1 to 2 p.m., area businesses will be able to meet with representatives from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the DATC’s Business Programs and Entrepreneurship Development to explore available grant and loan programs, learn more about the benefits of the city’s enterprise zone, and improve marketing. The expo is an opportunity for established and home-based businesses to connect, as well as strengthen the Morgan business community. Participation will give you a better understanding of the resources and options available locally and will provide an opportunity to network with other business owners, Wilde said. It is designed to help your business make more money by increasing awareness of your business within our community. Wilde said the Shop Morgan program will get its start at the expo, allowing area businesses to advertise their promotions and get coupons out to the area public. The public is encouraged to sign up for the program that day so they can start receiving a monthly email full of local specials, promotions and discounts. It is a way to help the businesses and consumers connect, Wilde said.
