Dedicated youth still seeking donations for new marquee Morgan High School’s student body officers (SBOs) recently attended a leadership camp in St. George where they participated in team building activities, service projects and one-on-one training in how to become effective leaders. They had an amazing experience where they listened to Chris Brown, a motivational speaker, whose platform was, Step Up. He challenged the kids to forget about their past mistakes and their misfortunes in life and step up and go after what they want. Through positive self-talk and determination, they accepted the challenge to break a thick, 1 X 9 board in half. It looked impossible, but it was a mind thing and every single SBO broke a board in half with their bare hands. It showed them that if they want something bad enough, they can do it, said Shasta Breshears, SBO advisor. SBO officer McKayla Jones said that she loved the motivational workshops. The workshops got me motivated to make a difference in the lives of the kids at Morgan High School, to show them that you can do anything you put your mind to, commented Jones. She continued saying, It was also great to get to know all the other officers better. We all really bonded and it was a really neat experience. The concepts they learned at the camp have helped these dedicated youth with their fund-raising efforts as well. The SBOs have aggressively sought out help from the community in obtaining funds for a new electronic marquee. So far they have received $10,680 in donations, and they refuse to quit until they reach their $30,000 goal and have a new sign installed during their term. SBO officers and advisors want to thank all of those who have unselfishly submitted donations for their cause, and they encourage anyone who would still like to donate funds for the marquee to send donations to: Morgan High School, PO Box 917, Morgan, UT 84050. Breshears emphasized that donations can be received in many ways. You can even donate your Ridley’s advantage card points to go towards the marquee. There are different donation tiers, but even smaller donations are appreciated. Tier levels are: bronze-$100; silver-$500; gold-$1,000; and platinum-$5,000. Bronze and silver level donors will have their name or company name engraved on a plate on the front of the marquee. Gold and platinum donors will have an entire brick to themselves on the base of the marquee to engrave their company name and logo.
