Christmas is a time of giving, charity and spending time with loved ones. In an effort to assist those in need in our own community, the Morgan food pantry is asking residents to join in the spirit of the season and take their families to dinner. We are usually all about keeping it local, but just this once we are going to ask you to take a trip down the canyon and enjoy a great meal with your family, all while giving back to your community, said Julie Miller, food pantry director. For each flyer brought in on Dec. 11, the Riverdale location of Chili’s will donate 15 percent of the ticket to the Morgan Sub for Santa event. You can pick up a copy of the flyer at the food pantry or you can simply cut the graphic below from this newspaper article and take it in. Miller will also have copies of the flyer at the Ol’ Time Christmas on Commercial Street celebration Saturday, Dec. 5. While you are picking up your flyer, you can also turn in an unwrapped toy in exchange for a raffle ticket. The winners will be announced at 5 p.m. that evening, but you do not have to be present to win. We have great prizes for the raffle this year. Businesses, as well as individuals, have been incredibly generous, said Miller thankfully. I hate singling someone out, because everyone has been so great, but I really want to give a special thank you to Cindy Carter. She has just done such a phenomenal job. She has just gone above and beyond. Last year this event made it possible for the food pantry to help 17 families with their Christmas celebrations; this year they hope to help even more. Our shelves will be full this year. If you know of anyone who might need help, please have them come see us, said Miller. The food pantry is also in need of individuals who would like to sponsor an entire family. If you are interested in this opportunity, please call 801-829-8533. Miller would like everything delivered by Dec. 20. In addition to the raffle and the Chili’s event, Young Ford is joining in and hosting their own Sub for Santa event on Dec. 13. Miller would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for their generous donations: Front Street Gifts; Morgan Valley Crafts; River Burger; ICORR; Browning; Ace; Goldenwest Credit Union; Devils Slide Credit Union; Young Ford; Trax; The Morgan County News; Mane Attraction; Karen’s Kreations; Pretzelmaker; J’s Drive In; Layers of Love (Jennifer Vesper); Sportsman’s Warehouse; Papa Murphy’s; Honeybaked Ham; Smiths; Harmon’s and Target.
