The fifth annual Second Grade Turkey Trot, held at the Morgan High School track on Friday, Nov. 20, gave eager second graders an opportunity to run and win a prize for their Thanksgiving table. After the first heat for all interested students, the groups were pared down to 10 boys and 10 girls to race heat number two.
The cold air made it a little more challenging for the students to run, but each one gave it his or her all. The boys’ race ended in a photo finish with Enoch Johnson declared as the winner and Brody Peterson finishing second alongside him. Trace Henderson, who went out fast, claimed third place and Josh DeMond grabbed fourth.
In the girls’ race, Kamry Wardell outpaced the pack and took first. Crossing the finish line second was Karli Lynam while Aubryn Jones finished third. Shelby Wardell, whose older brother Jayden is a past Turkey Trot champion, came in fourth.
The first place winners received a large turkey donated by Bingham Meats. Those finishing second were awarded a ham from Ridley’s. The third and fourth place finishers took home sugar cookies donated by Loft House.
