Sub for Santa events make season more jolly

Christmas is a time of giving, charity and spending time with loved ones.  In an effort to assist those in need in our own community, the Morgan food pantry is asking residents to join in the spirit of the season with a visit to their sponsored giving trees.

Giving trees will be on display at Goldenwest Credit Union and at Devil’s Slide Credit Union. Each tree is decorated with paper ornaments that contain the information about individuals in need. If you would like to participate, you simply choose the ornaments/individuals you would like to buy for and let an employee know what need you are filling. After purchasing the gifts, you return them to the credit union.

Food Pantry Director Julie Miller will also have a giving tree set up at the Ol’ Time Christmas on Commercial Street celebration Saturday, Dec. 5.  While you are picking up your ornament, you can also purchase raffle tickets.  Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. that evening, but you do not have to be present to win.

“We have great prizes for the raffle this year.  Businesses, as well as individuals, have been incredibly generous,” said Miller thankfully. “I hate singling someone out, because everyone has been so great, but I really want to give a special thank you to Cindy Carter.  She has just done such a phenomenal job.  Each year she goes above and beyond.”

Last year this event made it possible for the food pantry to help 17 families with their Christmas celebrations; this year they hope to help even more. “Our shelves will be full this year.  If you know of anyone who might need help, please have them come see us,” said Miller.

The food pantry is also in need of individuals who would like to sponsor an entire family.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please call 801-829-8533. Miller would like everything delivered by Dec. 20.

Miller would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for their generous donations: Front Street Gifts; Morgan Valley Crafts; ICORR; Ace; Goldenwest Credit Union; Devils Slide Credit Union; Young Ford; Karen’s Kreations; Pretzelmaker; J’s Drive In; Nebco; Tractor Supply; D&S Guns; Polaris; NAPA; 1st Bank employees; Precision Auto and Binghams.
