Little Saint Nick hears Christmas wishes

Tradition is one of the best things about living in small-town Utah. A specific favorite amongst Morgan residents is the welcoming of jolliest man of them all, Santa Claus.
As you park your vehicle across the street at the Old Rock Church in Morgan City, you can already hear the sirens of the big red fire truck getting ready to bring Santa to the Morgan County courthouse in style. Driven by Fire Chief Dave Rich, the sirens call all the anxiously awaiting children to the street to watch Santa come around the corner waving from a chair atop the fire truck.
As the kids wave back in glee, DJ and local realtor Jerry Pierce adds to the festive ambiance playing songs like “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and “Here Comes Santa Claus.”
The Morgan Lion’s Club members stood ready with boxes of gumdrops and salt water taffy that had been bagged by their helpful elves the night before.
As Santa made his way through the crowd and assumed his rightful place in a chair next to a brightly lit Christmas tree in the lobby area of the courthouse, children formed a line and waited patiently to tell Santa their Christmas wishes.
Some children can’t wait to fill Santa’s ear with wishes from a “Barbie dream house” to a “dragon that won’t eat Mom or Dad.” Others are a little more timid while some opt for the all-out screaming with Santa photo opportunity.
Even though the unseasonably warm weather made the glassy area rather warm for Santa in his big red coat and hat, he smiled and assured that every child got the opportunity to share their wishes and get the traditional candy bag, even giving “high-fives” to those who overcame their fear of the big guy’s lap.
Even the teens joined in, reluctantly at first, but Santa puts everyone at ease.
Generations of families gathered to watch children, grand children and even great grandchildren partake of the same Christmas fun they enjoyed as a child. The community would like to thank all the Lion’s Club members and their elves for making this possible year after year.
