Young Eagles offer free youth flights over Morgan

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 58 from Ogden will be giving free airplane rides to 40 youth between the ages of 8 and 17.  The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Morgan County Airport.  A parent or guardian will be required to complete a registration form prior to the flight.

The Young Eagles program was developed in 1992 by the EAA to welcome young people into the world of aviation. Aviation is exciting and vital to our nation’s future, and the best way to convey that message is to actually experience flight in a first-hand setting.  To date, the EAA has given over 1.8 million rides.

Chapter 58 has several local pilots who regularly volunteer their time and aircraft to give Young Eagle rides.  To reserve a spot, please send an email to Tom Holt at cozy1212@msn.com.  Holt is the Young Eagle Coordinator for Chapter 58.

Holt said excitedly, “It will extra cool because in the past we’ve flown a circuitous route around the valley.  Chances are we can fly over the child’s house!”

EAA is an international aviation membership association founded in 1953 and headquartered in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Local chapters are located in all 50 states and many countries. Members are aviation enthusiasts of every age group, including many airline and commercial pilots, engineers, business people and even astronauts. They enjoy all types of airplanes, including “experimental” aircraft, those aircraft built by individual craftsmen rather than in a factory. “Experimental” refers to the category of aircraft designed by the FAA for these types of airplanes. Similar to standard category aircraft, experimental aircraft are inspected and certified airworthy by FAA.

In the past, weather has caused the event to be postponed, so please check the website the day of the event.  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2017-morgan-free-airplane-rides-tickets-38021730018
