On Nov. 17, 2017, the right lane of Interstate 84 eastbound was closed for several hours to clean up a tragic accident. 17-year-old Hyrum Rasmussen from Taylor, Utah, was heading up to Morgan to visit some friends when he lost control of his silver Hyundai Sonata.
At that moment, a semi truck and trailer was pulling off the road, almost completely stopped in the emergency lane at approximately mile marker 99.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the teen lost traction on the slushy road and slid sideways, impacting the rear of the semi trailer with the passenger side of the car.
At 10 a.m., emergency services arrived at the scene. The 17-year-old driver of the Sonata was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed as a result of the crash. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s office offered their deepest condolences to the driver’s family and friends.
