Second graders trot for turkeys

Although foul weather forced them inside the Trojan Center, the Morgan Elementary second graders were still ready to race in the Annual Turkey Trot.  Determination shone in the eyes of each boy and girl as he or she lined up to run.  Parents and siblings lined the track and upper balcony to cheer the racers on.  Early heats included every boy or girl who wanted to run.  At the command, the pack took off, some stumbling and tripping over the others as the group began to thin; a few took off too quickly and couldn’t maintain the pace while others, confident of their race strategy, methodically picked off runner after runner.   Crossing the finish line, the first five runners in each heat were welcomed to the finals.

With the finals set, the boys’ final group raced followed by the girls.  The first place Turkey Trot winners and recipients of a turkey from Bingham’s Custom Meats were George Thurston and Bailey Andersen.  William Pace and Kamri Clark raced to second place finishes and received a ham courtesy of Ridley’s Family Market.  The third and fourth place winners—Jace Benson and Kennady LaMadeline along with Carter Peterson and Vivie Gale—were awarded two pies each from Wal-Mart in Park City, and the fifth-place finishers, Cash Hardman and Sadie Moore, received one pie each.

Congratulations to the winners and all the participants!  Thanks to the teachers and the donors who work to make this fun event possible each year!
