Snowbasin receives nearly 2 feet of new snow

Snowbasin Resort, based in Huntsville, Utah, received over 21″ of new snow in the last 48 hours, with more snow anticipated in the forecast. Here are our questions and answers with Snowbasin about the recent snowfall:

  1. With the addition of the new two feet of snow, what percentage of available terrain is open now for your guests? “We have 11 out of 11 lifts spinning and almost 3,000 acres. Currently we have 89 out of 107 trails open. The handful of trails that are closed are some double black diamonds, that Ski Patrol will open when they deem it safe.”

  3. With more snow, even more people are inclined to ski. What recommendations do you have for people for parking and avoiding the lines? “Everyone heads to the resort for the 9 am opening, so we recommend coming a little earlier or a little later to bypass the mad rush. The weekends are more popular, so if people have flexibility, maybe head up the resort midweek.”

  5. What’s the weather forecast looking like for the rest of the week and into the next month? “Always hard to look at the weather on a long term scale. For example this last 21’’ storm was very much under predicted. However, listening to the meteorologists, looks like we have a chance of snow the rest of the week and people are saying March is looking favorable for more storms.”
