Following their success at the MHS concert on Tuesday night, the MHS Jazz Band, under the direction of Chad McLean, traveled to South Summit High School in Kamas on Thursday, March 2, 2018, for the Region Band Competition. The band executed almost flawlessly and secured a spot at the state competition. “This is the first time since I have taught here (2010) that the jazz band has qualified for state, so of course, I was thrilled!” McLean noted with obvious enthusiasm and pride.
“Playing jazz music is all about fun,” he continued. “These students took the stage, nailed the music and had a great time doing it. Friendships are made and strengthened during events like this and that is the most important part.”
For jazz fans (and Jazz fans who like jazz), the MHS Jazz Band will be holding a Live Jazz Band Dance on Friday, March 9, 7-8:30 pm in the MHS Commons. Come support the band as they fundraise for their trip to San Antonio. Cost for the dance is $5/single, $8/couple, and $15/family.
Congratulations to this talented, hard working group of kids and best of luck to them as they compete in the State Jazz Band Festival on March 22-23!
