National Honor Society hopes to help make a difference in children’s lives

The Morgan High School National Honor Society is excited to announce its annual fundraising activity.  With a worthy charitable organization, valuable prize baskets for students and community members alike, and a night full of fun activities for students, O.U.R. Trojans is sure to be a success.

Operation Underground Railroad is the organization for which the club has chosen to raise funds this year.  Founded by Tim Ballard and centered in Anaheim, CA, Operation Underground Railroad is an organization dedicated to fighting against child trafficking all around the world.  Also the CEO of O.U.R., Tim Ballard was a Utah resident and is an alumnus of Brigham Young University.

Since its founding in December 2013, O.U.R. has rescued over 1,000 children from sex trafficking and helped arrest over 443 traffickers around the world.  The organization’s website explains, “O.U.R.’s Underground Jump Team consists of former CIA, Navy SEALS, and Special Ops operatives that lead coordinated identification and extraction efforts.”

These extraction efforts take place all over the world, from Cambodia to Colombia to the U.S.  However, according to the website, a single mission can cost anywhere between $50,000 to $75,000, rescuing anywhere from 1 to 50 children.  This is why O.U.R. needs our help.

The National Honor Society hopes to help make a difference in these children’s lives through its fundraising night activity and prize baskets.

Each year, prize baskets donated generously by businesses from the community and beyond are raffled off.  This year, some of the baskets include a photography session, gift cards, movie tickets, essential oils, craft supplies, and more.  Due to the chaotic parking situation at the high school right now due to construction, a reserved front-row parking spot will also be raffled off to students.  Each basket is worth between $50 and $350, making the raffle tickets a valuable investment.

Some of the baskets will be available only to community members, and some only to high school students.  The community-basket tickets are on sale in the Morgan High School main office, and they will also be available for purchase at Ridley’s on Friday, March 9th; Saturday, March 10th ; and Monday, March 12th, and Wednesday, March 14th; from 4-8:00 pm.

Tickets cost $2 for 1 ticket, $5 for 3 tickets, and $10 for 8 tickets.  The National Honor Society would like to thank the community in advance for their support in this worthy event.

The fundraiser night for students will take place on Friday, March 16th from 7:30 to 11:30 at the high school.  Admission tickets are $10 in advance, and $15 at the door. Activities such as a basketball tournament, badminton, Mario Kart, and a dodgeball tournament will be featured; pizza and soda will also be for sale.  All students are encouraged to attend this fantastic evening!
