Dillon Petty, son of William and Kelli Petty, has a passion for science that has ultimately allowed him to represent Morgan High School as the Science Sterling Scholar. Petty explained, “I really started to love science in the third grade… I have always been curious about why and how things work; over time that curiosity has changed into a passion.” With a wide variety of experiences and achievements throughout his life, Petty is certainly worthy of the Sterling Scholar title.
Petty’s involvements in high school include the National Honor Society presidency, National Technical Honor Society, Hope Squad, Seminary council, FFA (Future Farmers of America) club, Science Olympiad team, and Governing Youth Council. He also is the Student School Board Member. “I always remember the fun times I had in competing in Science Olympiad and for the FFA,” Petty said. He also explained some of his other interests: “I love sports, track and field, and football. I am always out of the house doing something.”
Petty’s favorite quote is “If you ain’t first, you’re last,” by Ricky Bobby. This certainly describes Petty as he seeks for excellence in everything he sets out to do. Recently, Petty won first place at the Morgan High School Science Fair. As mentioned above, he always is looking for activities and organizations to be involved in, showing his strength as a leader, student, and friend.
Petty plans on serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He will then be attending Southern Utah University on a track scholarship and plans on going into the medical field to pursue a career in cardiology.
