After heading up the Morgan Elementary PTO for the past six years, Verlene Johnson and Randi Averett are moving on to other opportunities. As the school year wound down, they were honored for the extensive service at the school by the new PTO officers and members.
Johnson served as secretary for two years before becoming Vice President four years ago. Averett completed a year of service as Vice President and stepped into the President role the same time Johnson became Vice President. For the past four years, Johnson and Averett have worked tirelessly to improve MES for students, teachers and parents alike.
“I loved being able to help the teachers through teacher appreciation meals and other events,” Johnson noted. “I like to help let them know they are appreciated.”
Averett started the MES Daddy-Daughter Dance the first year of her presidency four years ago. This fundraiser has become one of the most beloved and well-attended events at MES. “I feel that creating a fun, memory-making fundraiser, the Daddy-Daughter Dance, was my greatest accomplishment as President. In addition, we did the mom and son night that helped raise money for new playground equipment,” Averett shared.
Another activity that Averett and Johnson supported was Moms & Memories and Dads & Doughnuts. This was a time for parents to enjoy a treat with their students before school and create more memories together.
“They have worked well together,” Principal Andy Jensen commented. “They have worked to provide excellent support to our student and teachers. We are very grateful for their willingness and extended service.”
